William Gibson Wiki

Angela "Angie" Mitchell. Daughter of Christopher Mitchell.

Has a vvshe implanted in her head by her father which allows her to access cyberspace directly without jacking in. It also allows the loa voodoo gods of cyberspace to manifest directly through her. She is sometimes referred to as Vyej Mirak, Our Lady, Virgin of Miracles or Ezili Freda.

Count Zero[]

Prior to appearing physically Angie appears as Vyej Mirak in cyberspace, saving Bobby from being killed by a lethal Black ICE.

Arizona[]

Angie physically appears at age 17 when she is sent by her father Christopher Mitchell in his place during a corporate defection from Maas Biotech. She flies an ultralight from the Maas facility in a mesa in Arizona to an rendezvous point where the extraction is compromised and she crashes.

Turner Farm[]

She is retrieved from the crash site by Turner, who evacuates her to his brother Rudy's house while she heals and Turner attempts to work out who compromised the extraction and what to do with her. During Rudy's medical inspection of Angela he identifies unidentified bio-soft called a vvshe woven into her brain. The vvshe allows the loa voodoo gods to communicate through Angie and they direct Turner to take her to the Sprawl where voodoo practitioners are waiting for her at Jammer's nightclub.

Jammer's Nightclub - Hypermart[]

Voodoo practitioner Beauvoir receives a message through Jackie from the loa voodoo gods/fractured AI of the net that Angela is the physical manifestation of "The Virgin", one of their gods.

After the events at Jammer's nightclub Angela goes with Bobby and Beauvoir to the Sprawl to learn more about the voodoo gods.

There is a post-script in Count Zero from two years later indicating Angie is an up and coming Sense/Net celebrity and Bobby is still accompanying her.

Mona Lisa Overdrive[]

Jamaica[]

In Angie's reminiscing it is revealed that Angie and Bobby move away from the Sprawl and Angie goes on to become a Sense/Net celebrity. Angie and Bobby part ways and Angie becomes addicted to drugs, which dull her ability to communicate with the loa voodoo gods/fractured AI of the net. At the beginning of Mona Lisa Overdrive Angie is de-toxing in Jamaica and preparing to re-enter her career.

Factory - Dog Solitude[]

There is a plot to kidnap Angie orchestrated by Lady 3Jane Marie-France Tessier-Ashpool, which is foiled by Molly Millions (working under the name Sally Shears) who kidnaps Angie first. Under direction from the loa voodoo gods Molly takes Angie to the Factory in Solitude where Bobby is located. Angie chooses to join Bobby in the aleph simulated environment he stole from 3Jane in the physical world where she meets Brigitte, who is a manifestation of her vvshe, and the AI named Continuity, who is identified as her cousin constructed from biochips. Molly gets Slick to put the aleph on the robot Judge and hook it up to a solar power supply to keep the aleph simulated environment containing Angie and Bobby powered.
