Soon after the end of the War, the Pentagon and the CIA were partially dismantled and a Congressional inestigation focused on the fiasco of the Screaming Fist, with show trials to investigate whether some officials had withheld information regarding the Russian defenses in Kirensk. The Aide was serving a particular Congressional cabal and Pentagon infrastructure, and was ordered to find a survivor of the Screaming Fist in order to save the career of 3 officials. He found Col. Willis Corto 11 months later in a military facility in Utah, blind and crippled, in order to buy his testimony and told him about the political events. Corto said he was ready to testify, but the aide (politely coughing) said that the trials were televized and they needed to reach the voters, so he ought to be repaired.

5 months later Corto was ready to testify and the trials ended in Washington around September. They met in an M Street restaurant, explaining to him the terminal dangers involved in "talking to the wrong people". Understanding that he is "unwanted" now, Corto crushed his larynx and his face in an asparagus crepe. Corto stepped out and disappeared.
