A tall mirror-sheathed building in the Sprawl (perhaps New York), the nexus of the Sense/Net consortium. It is busy even at midnight, with 3,000 employees and tourists (who hope to get a glimpse of Tally Isham). Guards are armed with fiberglass shock staves and beepers on their belts.
Beyond its pair of gray steel doors the lobby is vast and white with a wall of gold-flecked mirror. An enormous circular reception desk is at the rear. The basement housed a reasearch library that was a dead storage area with rows of identical gray lockers; the materials stored here had to be physically removed before they could be interfaced. 5 separate alarm systems guarded to place and doors were locked with 3 elaborate locks. The construct of Dixie Flatline was guarded there.
Attack[]
Molly Millions entered the building disguised as a tourist. In a coordinated move, around the same time, pranksters of the Panther Moderns notified the police and security agencies that Sons of Christ the King, a militant Christian fundamentalist sub sect, released Blue Nine agent into the ventilation system of the building. 6 NYPD Tactical hovercraft, converged on the building, and a BAMA Rapid Deployment helicopter was lifting off from Riker's Island. 4 minutes after the calls, the Moderns hijacked the internal vide system and caused the screens to strobe for 18" in a frequency that produced seizures in some employees. A video and audio related to deformities and HsG played, ending in a flare of white screen. Soon after all the pyramid screamed in hysteria.
Meanwhile, inside the matrix, Case entered its ICE camouflaged as a scheduled signal from the Sense/Net Los Angeles complex and his icebreaker infected the gate to deflect the upcoming real data.
Molly had aleady descended to the basement and fought some guards when Tacticals were spraying foam barricades and the Rapids were trying to land their copter. Two Panther Moderns sat behind a low rectangular planter in the lobby and Tommy was recording the riot, while they expected to take Molly outside.
Tacticals and Rapids cooperated with rare degree of efficency and sealed the ground floor with foam barricades, believing they would stop potential delirious killers. Delirious employees spilled out of the elevators running to the exits but were stopped by the barricates and the sandbag-guns of the Rapids. A crowd surged back and forth across the lobby. The main street doors were wrecked and bodies piled. The floor was covered with bodies, clothes, blood and scrolls of printout. 14 people were killed in the mischief.
Case speculated that Sense/Net would investigate the deflection fo the Los Angeles transfer and within days discover the theft of the construct; but it would be too late by then. Indeed, the Turing Police, who were tracing Wintermute's movements since Chiba, understood that the riot was instigate by his team; they contacted Sense/Net asking to run an inventory, finding that Pauley's ROM was missing, and they confirmed that the gang is in the Sprawl.
The next day, Cath visited the Pyramid and saw the things were bad, although everyone believed it was a work of Christ the King terrorists. There she saw Tally Isham in person and took some shots of her.
