the Pit, despite its name, is the uppermost, unfinished parts of Nighttown. It is the hideout of the Lo Teks, who crouch over it like gargoyles.
The Pit, being near the top of the Fuller domes, can be seen as an "inverted bowl", with its "bottom" touching the unseen, dark sky. Despite being high, it was socially "the lowest circle, where any outside influence generates swift, concentric ripples of raw menace", a good place to hide.
The territory of the Lo Teks is made of epoxy, worm metal and damp plywood; platforms, catwalks and rope ladders. They sleep above the abyss of the Nighttown in mesh hammocks.
